In this essay i will be talking about how i have developed as a media student through the duration of the 2 year course, this will include me talking about; how i understand the purpose of research and it's effects on creativity, my understanding of conventions, my understanding of making a product to meet the expectations of a media target audience. Before the start of the media studies course we were all considered to be creators due to the fact that we have posted our own photos, videos and messages through media platforms such as; Instagram, youtube, snapchat and others. Media language can be defined as the codes and conventions of a particular media text. This means that what you see in films have a specific meaning that is typical and usual to people involved with the media however to everyone else it would be seen as holding a deeper meaning. In this essay I will be explaining the way I have used camera, editing, sound, mise-en-scene, and semiotics in my trailer 'last man standing'. Semiotics can be defined as the study of signs which create a meaning through language and codes, a sig in a horror film for example can be anything such as blood signifying death, or a corridor holding the meaning of a yonic object. Creativity can be defined as a work in progress that allows room for skill development and can lead onto a sense of potential for other projects later on. (e.g. one thing can lead to another that could lead to creating a masterpiece or something original). Audience is the most important part of a film due to the fact that they are the people that are consuming the product that is made. In this essay i will be applying mass audience theory and active audience theory to my summer trailer last man standing. Mass audience theory can be defined as the audience being passive and that they can be influenced easily, it also believes that everyone sees and interprets the media in the same way. on the other hand active audience theory goes against mass audience theory by saying that the audience see media texts in multiple separate ways and it examines their responses. the effects model is argued that media has an effect on the audience and can be influential towards the audience but the effects that it gives off are seen as typically negative. it also expresses that audiences are passive which correlates with mass audience. in-addition this model says that the viewer accepts the message that is presented to them through text. this stands out...
