Light - can symbolize many things, such as hope, escape, and even death. Sunlight normally provides a sense of comfort so the opposites of sunlight and horror can be unnerving, such as the graveyard scene in  Night of the Living Dead  (1968). Candles, lanterns, and flashlights are common sources of light in horror, as the light can only be cast so far while the surrounding darkness is full with shadows. Weapons –  A majority of horror films involve the use of weapons, from machine guns to chainsaws. Weapons have phallic symbolism that suggests masculine power/patriachy and the woman that outsmarts the monster essentially castrates him. Leather face's weapon in the  Texas Chainsaw Massacre  (1974) is the ultimate phallic symbol of power. The type of weapons a writer chooses for his or her monster – knife, gun, sword, club, saw.  Action horror- includes the evil backstory along with the gun fights and chases. This includes a film like blade.       Body horror – this is where the film uses the body to move in hyper extending ways to create fear of the person and to show the person as sinister. This is shown in invasion. Comedy horror – this is when a film copies the stereotype of a horror film and makes a parody out of it. This was shown in scary movie. Gothic horror – this has a mixture of horror and Goth and is based in dungeons instead of houses. This was shown in Dracula. Psychological horror – this is to do with the characters with the beliefs, fears and emotions of the character. This was shown in the exorcist. Science fiction horror – this is to do with paranormal types of horror but also deals with experiments gone wrong like alien. Slasher – this deals with a lot of violence and typically deals with a serial killer. This was shown in Texas
