Representation Essay

In this essay i will be talking about the representation scream queens, the final girl, religion and sexuality , hegemony and teen punishment, and the monster. during this essay i will be questioning and explaining who they are what they mean and why they are important to horror. I would say that my trailer is misogynistic due to the fact that there are are no females in the trailer which could connote patriarchy and male  dominance. The monster in the trailer could represent how males are in society and how they try to dominate everyone and everything. Firstly out of male gaze or scream queens i would say that our trailer applies to male gaze as although we don't have females in our trailer that we objectify we do have a view from male only perspectives, in my trailer all the camera shots were from either mine or Daniels point of view allowing the viewer to see from a male dominant view. This view is seen in the woods through out the trailer and you can see p...

5 narratives

introduction: Narrative can be defined as a chain of events in a cause and affect relationship occurring in time, and is a sequence of events in a chronological order to make a meaningful story. the trailer I will be using is Last Man Standing from our production called enemy of my enemy. Narrative is important to my trailer because like Vlad Propp says there are limited character types that share the same function. Furthermore Strauss is a valid narrative theory as it says that narratives are structured by pairs of binary opposites and this is evident in my trailer because we have good v evil and teen punishment. todorovs theory shows an equilibrium (happy, normal, utopian place to be) then a problem that arises to destroy the happiness which is called distruption and finally there is the resolution which is when the characters get rid of the aggressor or ghost and everything goes back to normal. The problem with having the resolution in the trailer is that it ruins th...

how does the concept of genre relate to your trailer

Genre is something that is used to gain knowledge of an audience and how they respond to certain things. In this essay I will be  analysing the way the concept of genre is portrayed in a trailer by previous media students from the production of jawsplitter, this trailer is called Enthrallment. At the beginning of this trailer you can see religious imagery which could imply that the genre of the film is psychological horror, I think this as this genre typically has religion involved to fight of evil, this tells me that this trailer is about good v evil. Daniel chandler backs up the meaning of genre and its origin. In-addition to this the trailer has clearly shown that there is a genre.Steve  Neale said that “genres are processes” that can evolve and change overtime which likely led to the creation of sub-genres. Before this argument was made the audience probably would have seen this as a horror purely because of the scary/tense music and the lighting, ...

300 word summary of 12 icons of horror

Light - can symbolize many things, such as hope, escape, and even death. Sunlight normally provides a sense of comfort so the opposites of sunlight and horror can be unnerving, such as the graveyard scene in  Night of the Living Dead  (1968). Candles, lanterns, and flashlights are common sources of light in horror, as the light can only be cast so far while the surrounding darkness is full with shadows. Weapons –  A majority of horror films involve the use of weapons, from machine guns to chainsaws. Weapons have phallic symbolism that suggests masculine power/patriachy and the woman that outsmarts the monster essentially castrates him. Leather face's weapon in the  Texas Chainsaw Massacre  (1974) is the ultimate phallic symbol of power. The type of weapons a writer chooses for his or her monster – knife, gun, sword, club, saw. Masks – with films like  slasher classics masks are most often used to disguise evil. Masks usually hide everything except...
